Why do people blame media for every ills. Media is just the reflection of the society, like a mirror. What ever you will project it will be seen in the mirror.
Media do not project anyone as if s/he is from out of planet. It is the society which projects the toppers as if they are from out of the planet...
Media has also brought the stories of students who have achieved the feats even in their adversaries.... like son of paan shop owner cracking the IIT-JEE examinations in Ranchi. Why don't you people appriciate these things.

In a big country like India, a varied system of the Institutions is a must. We should not get carried away by such remarks on well established Institutions like IITs' and IIMs'. Every system has its place in asystem of Higher Education, e.g. like ISM Dhanbad, now a University.

Higher Education is one of the key components to progress. As India is thriving to "shining India", the lives of the PhD Research Scholars in most universities seem relatively not shining. For one and a half years being a PhD Research Scholar in a "prestigious" University, not single framework or chapter has been completed. This has something to do with the guidelines administered by the chosen guide. I have tried to draft the introduction part, but sad to say, it was rejected... modesty aside, I am an average person who also knows the basics. The guide in the university has all the "say" what to write, when to write and when a PhD research scholar starts to dig the question "why" in the framework - a noble remark was -- "you're not Ambedkar that you can do it on your own". Some PhD students had their PhD by paying a unscrupulous amount of money. This is a reality. The goal of having a PhD is a golden effort; but if this is the situation in some universities, then "quo vadis scholars?"
Where is the quality of higher education in this context? Even a guide does not know the basic formula of economic derivations? The sorry experience that I face is but a manifestation of a decaying higher education. I may be pessimist in this matter at this point in time, but I know not all universities and professors as my guide are the same. Some Guides even ask their PhD students to bring vegetables, to pick family members from train station, pay the current bills, update the personal bank account or demand for some amount of money in exchange for PhD thesis. It is high time the Higher Education must be ultimately reviewed and scrutinized and put pressure on the government to improve the quality of education of India- only then we can call our own - a shining India.
